Next Generation mmWave & Optical Satellite Systems:

From Channel Modeling to System Performance Evaluation

New spectrum and rate demanding satellite applications have evolved and have led to the employment of higher RF frequency bands and optical wavelengths.  Reliable system design is constrained by the propagation effects, the interference and the noise that are inherently present in all radio and optical wireless systems. The objective of this Workshop is to present papers on propagation impairments and channel modeling for next generation mmWave and optical satellite systems, as well as their mitigation techniques. Additionally, in this Workshop beyond propagation channel modeling aspects, system performance evaluation of RF and optical satellite networks are addressed.

Topics of interest for this Workshop include, but are not limited to:

·         Propagation models for RF & Optical Frequencies

·         Antenna Technologies for Satellite Communications

·         Channel Modeling (statistical, physical-mathematical, etc)

·         Fading and Interference Mitigation

·         Propagation Models at Ka-, Q/V- and W-bands

·         Free Space Optical Communications

·         MIMO and Diversity Techniques

·         High Throughput Satellite Systems

·         LEO and MEO constellations operating at Ku band and above

·         Hybrid Terrestrial and Satellite Networks

·         Cooperative Satellite Networks

·         Cognitive Satellite Networks

·         Earth Observation High Data Rate telemetry Downlinks

·         Deep-Space Communications

·         Experimental Activities in Channel Modeling (Alphasat etc)

·         Software Radio Technologies Satellite Receivers

·         Standardization and Regulatory Issues
